Are you interested in certification for products that come into contact with drinking water? Directive (EU) 2020/2184

AENOR Certification in accordance with the DWD:

Get ahead of Directive (EU) 2020/2184

The European Union is entering a new phase regarding water quality, and as AENOR already offers its services for 13 different Directives or Regulations, AENOR is launching its certification based on the Drinking Water Directive (DWD). This certification will allow companies to demonstrate their compliance, once it becomes mandatory.

If your products also hold the AENOR N Mark certification or AENOR CE marking, we will take advantage of our plant visits to carry out both audits jointly in a coordinated manner.

In any case, this is an opportunity for your organization to demonstrate its commitment to health and safety before full regulatory implementation.

What do we offer? Comprehensive preparation for Directive (EU) 2020/2184.

At AENOR, we act as a strategic partner to ensure a smooth transition to the new European regulatory framework. Our service is designed to ensure that your company not only complies with the Directive but also leads the market.

  • Strategic Foresight (2027 horizon)

We support you from day one throughout the entire certification process to comply with the mandatory Drinking Water Directive (DWD). Our goal is to ensure that your products hold a valid certificate that builds trust with both: customers and public entities.

Anyway, we must not overlook the transition period mentioned by the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism on its website: Ministry of Industry and Tourism - Construction products in contact with water intended for human consumption. This site states that: "...products declared compliant with national hygiene requirements for products in contact with water intended for human consumption, and for which the national certificate of conformity remains valid on December 31, 2026, shall [be applicable/remain valid] until December 31, 2032."

  • A tool for building trust in the market and with public authorities.

The AENOR certificate is a valuable tool for building trust that allows you to:

• Demonstrate the technical and sanitary compliance of your products.

• Position your company in international tenders and markets.

• Verify the safety of your products for end consumers.

  • Specialized technical evaluation.

To carry out this process, and for products that require it, we have agreements with leading accredited laboratories to perform the specific tests required by the Directive. We manage the tests according to the type of material, the risk group, and the conformity assessment system indicated in the DWD:

• For all products: individual items, series, or components.

• For all types of materials: organic, metallic, cementitious, or ceramic.

• By risk classification: Precise assessment according to the established risk groups (RG1, RG2, RG3, or RG4).

• Expert support: Step-by-step guidance to final certification through our Specific Certification Regulations (RP).

• Laboratory network: Direct access to testing for all materials and risk groups (RG) that require it.

We’ll tell you all about it on April 23 at a free in-person event at AENOR’s headquarters in Madrid.
