The Waste and Contaminated Land Act passed, how to reduce the tax associated with single-use plastics?

On 8 April last, the Law on Waste and Contaminated Soil was passed and with it, it is now a fact that companies with AENOR accredited certification, the only accreditation by Enac in Spain for the UNE-EN 15343 standard, of the minimum recycled plastic content, as indicated in article 77 of the aforementioned Law, will be able to reduce or eliminate the tax rate on single-use plastic, thanks to the tax advantages indicated in the aforementioned article.

This Law represents a great challenge for the entire plastics processing sector, which in recent years has been adapting its processes by incorporating recycled material, within the limits of what is indicated in the legislation and product standards, in order to make its products environmentally sustainable and thus facilitate the circular economy of plastics.

In this way, manufacturers who trusted in AENOR's certification of the minimum recycled plastic content will see their efforts rewarded, and we encourage those who are subject to this Law and have not yet done so to contact AENOR to find out about the characteristics of this certification.

At AENOR, we work to find solutions so that the different sectors have the necessary tools that allow them to offer customers and users truly sustainable products protected by AENOR's certification, a leader in the market.
