AENOR participates in showtour: European OCS Scheme at Molecor (Loeches-Spain)

On 29 October, AENOR participated in the Showtour that took place in Loeches at the facilities of the company Molecor, during which AENOR presented, together with the company Molecor itself, the practical application and main lines of action of the European OCS Scheme.

The host company showed us how it carries out the control and reduction of pellet losses in its facilities to prevent them from ending up in the sea, thus contributing to improving the environment, showing a before and after of the implementation of the European OCS scheme in its own facilities, not only in Loeches, but in the rest of the company's factories, both nationally and internationally.

Together with the associations promoting the Operation Clean Sweep® Scheme in Spain (ANAIP) and in Europe (Plastics Europe), the European OCS Programme was promoted, which included representatives of the Public Administration of the Community of Madrid, the local City Council, and the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, who showed a clear commitment to sustainability and the objective of avoiding pellet losses from the industry.

The day started with the welcome of Ignacio Muñoz, General Manager of Molecor, who stated that the indicator that will determine the development of the countries in the future will be the capacity to reuse and manage plastics; and the Mayor of Loeches, Antonio Theodori, who focused on the benefits for a municipality like Loeches of the presence of companies that boost the economic activity and strengthen the industrial fabric and the creation of employment.

The specific content of the showtour began with a presentation on the regulatory framework affecting microplastics by Beatriz Sánchez, from the Subdirectorate General for the Protection of the Sea of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, who explained how the Ministry monitors the presence of microplastics on Spanish beaches and reaffirmed the support of this institution for voluntary initiatives by the industry to prevent pellet losses.

Yolanda Martínez, Director of Environment and CSR at Molecor, spoke about the good practices that have been implemented in the company and explained some examples of these measures with images of the improvements achieved. “Large investments are not necessary to implement measures to prevent the loss of microplastics to the environment’, she said. And he emphasised the need to involve the entire value chain and all plant personnel: ‘OCS is all of us, we are all responsible for monitoring and managing pellet control”.
