AENOR recognised for the European OCS Scheme
We started with the recognition by the Subdirección General para la Protección del Mar del Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico with its support for AENOR's Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) certification scheme, whose licensee in Spain is ANAIP, which is now followed by the recognition by the owners of the European OCS scheme:
Plastics Europe, the association of plastics manufacturers in Europe, and
EUPC, the association of European plastics processors, of which ANAIP is a member.
This is no coincidence, as the AENOR scheme has been a pioneer in the world in certifying companies committed to preventing plastic waste from ending up in the sea, and has now been endorsed by Europe by being taken as a model for the recently created European OCS Scheme.
In this sense, we would like to inform the companies that trusted in AENOR and were certified according to the principles of the American scheme that the adaptation to the European model will be automatic, as both are based on the same principles that were established at the initial moment.
OCS is a global and voluntary initiative of the plastics value chain, which ANAIP launched in Spain in 2016 and currently has around 300 companies adhered to the programme (www.anaip.es/ocs). Its objective is to prevent and reduce the emission of primary microplastics into the environment, whether in the form of pellets, flakes or resin powder. Certification under the programme can be awarded to any company involved in any stage of the supply chain: production, handling, transport, processing and recycling.
Some thirty organisations, including raw material manufacturers, plastics processors, transporters and logistics warehousers, have already certified their OCS commitment, and others are in the initial process of certification, already in accordance with the European scheme.
ANAIP and AENOR continue to collaborate actively to promote the growth of this European scheme, contributing our experience as pioneering bodies in the certification of the OCS programme.
