CE marking: The European product passport
The CE marking allows the free movement of products that have a harmonised standard of application in the European Single Market.
Access to the European Market
In order to place a Harmonised Standard on the market in the Single European Area, the manufacturer of products covered by a harmonised standard (or its authorised representative) must issue a Declaration of Performance (DoP) and affix the CE logo to the product, packaging or accompanying documentation.
CE certification or European certification consists of a conformity assessment process, in which notified certification bodies such as AENOR can take part, by which the manufacturer or his authorised representative assumes responsibility for the declared performance and conformity with the requirements of the CE marking.
As a European Certificate of Conformity (CE), it must meet the criteria set out in the European Directives or Regulations that apply to it (through EN technical standards, European standards, if applicable) for the free marketing of the product. When a Notified Body (NO) participates in the production control phase, its identification number must be next to the CE marking. In the case of AENOR, its Notified Body number is 0099.
Products in the electrical sector are considered differently, with the exception of cables, since these products do not require the intervention of a Notified Body in order to bear the CE logo, since the full responsibility for compliance with the essential requirements lies exclusively with the manufacturer or first distributor in the European Union.
AENOR is a Notified Body for different European Directives and Regulations that require CE certification in order to be able to market subject products in the European Economic Area:
Construction Products
The manufacturer or distributor of construction products covered by a harmonised standard in accordance with EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) 305/2011, or its authorised representative, must issue a Declaration of Performance and affix the logo on the product, packaging or accompanying documentation.
